Patricia Winter’s 1995 performances “Something strange will happen soon…” and “All this buttoning and unbuttoning!” explore dark fears and desires by physically expressing a usually hidden discourse that contrasts the erotic with the innocent. This is a 38-minute documentary film of performances drawn from Patricia Winter’s background as a choreographer and incorporating theatrical elements and installation art inspired by her dreams and observations of the mundane.

Kunstraum LLC is pleased to announce our participation in FAIR from May 20 – June 21, 2020, presented by the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA). We will present works by Carla Giannis, Karina Aguilera Skvirsky, Nadja Verena Marcin, and Susan Silas under the title Femme Fatale.
FAIR is a new art fair initiative designed to be online, function cooperatively, and act as a benefit for NADA’s community of galleries and artists. Each participating gallery presents up to four artworks, each for one week. The initiative will also feature a series of online performances, studio visits and talks to complement the artworks presented by participating galleries and artists. The finale not only fits into patriarchal themes most women would recognize from their daily lives, but there’s another disturbing ideology at play that echoes modern politics.”

Femme Fatale explores how the contemporary female protagonist becomes a heroine but remains suspended between disbelief and scrutiny on the larger stage of a patriarchal world framework. Setting up women’s success narratives for tragedy and downfalls – in the truest sense fatal endings. A smart and alluring woman with a strong voice and character is eyed as manipulative, implausible, and often as having evil intentions, whereas the same attributes are only seen as positive for a male successor of the same leading role. Our exhibition can be seen as an anti-manifesto, an attempt to remove the sense of guilt from the act of female domination.

Episode 18 – The Dynamics
“The Dynamics” takes us deep into the core of Frank Moore’s performance work, detailing Frank’s theories of how private performance affects the outer world. Drawing on concepts from quantum physics and Chaos Theory, Frank talks about how his private work, both in performance and in his one-to-one work with students, expands private personal rituals into the realm of myths and the universals, and can create change and effect in the outer world through nonlinear channels of influence. This episode also includes a conversation with experimental electronic musician LX Rudis, and a brand new episode of the animated series, “How to Handle an Anthropologist”.
The reading in this segment is by Veronica Vera, former porn star, sexual explorer, activist, human sexuality author, and founder of the world’s first cross-gender academy. Music by Frank Moore, Vinnie Corbo, Vinnie Spit Santino, Sander Roscoe Wolff, Vinnie Spit Santino’s Ensemble Abstract Band, and Manta.
Let Me Be Frank is a video series based on the life and art of shaman, performance artist, writer, poet, painter, rock singer, director, TV show host, teacher and bon vivant, Frank Moore.
The series is partly a biography, but also a presentation of Frank’s philosophy on life and on art. Twenty-plus episodes have been planned based on Frank’s book, Art of a Shaman, which was originally delivered as a lecture at New York University in 1990 as part of the conference “New Pathways in Performance”. Each episode will feature readings by people who played an important part in Frank’s life, either as friends, lovers, students, artistic collaborators or supporters of his art.
Let Me Be Frank presents Frank’s exploration of performance and art as being a magical way to effect change in the world … performance as an art of melting action, of ritualistic shamanistic doings/playings. Using Frank’s career and life as a “baseline”, it explores this dynamic playing within the context of reality shaping.

Dear Friends,
How are you each doing in these new and trying times? I know that the consequences of this will be many, and it may affect each of us differently, but I hope that we can all find new ways to stay active, connected and together despite (or maybe within) the distance.
I’m writing today to share what I’ve been up to and some success that’s come my way.
First, I want to thank and commend all my friends, curators, gallerists and directors who have had to take on the difficult decisions to cancel, postpone or adapt their programs to face COVID-19. I am proud of their work to prioritize collective health care and encourage us all to keep finding new ways to support one another through this. I am also grateful to everyone who has shown their commitment to my upcoming projects, even if many of them are now on a slightly further horizon. We have much to look forward to!
One such project, I am now excited to share, is that I have been awarded a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship. Much thanks to Kevin Dumouchelle, Karen Milbourne and Saisha Grayson for their support as advisers. I am looking forward to being a part of this incredible institution and the opportunities that pan out.
I am also excited to share that I am one of twenty incredible artists to receive a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation grant for 2020! I am honoured to be named along side these artists for this prize and am excited for the possibilities that this grant creates for us all. Closer, to home, I am finding space to reflect on the successes of 2019 and to think ahead to where my practice may take us next. I have been reading and writing towards future projects, and have been recombining elements from last year’s projects and research into these new collages. I am excited to see where this process will lead, and what new movements may come from these when we can dance together again.

This is the first English translation, and the first annotated edition in any language. It’s 261 pages: 44 stories, plus 5 extra stories. My, what a spring bouquet it is. Alphonse Allais (1854-1905) was France’s greatest humorist. His elegance, scientific curiosity, preoccupation with language and logic, wordplay, and flashes of cruelty inspired Alfred Jarry, as well as succeeding generations of Surrealists, Pataphysicians, and Oulipians. Pamela Sneed, a Board member of Visual AIDS, is a New York-based poet, writer, performer and visual artist. She is the author of Imagine Being More Afraid of Freedom than Slavery, KONG and Other Works, Sweet Dreams and two chaplets, Gift by Belladonna and Black Panther. She has been featured in the New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, Art Forum, Hyperallergic and on the cover of New York Magazine. She is online faculty in SAIC’s low res MFA teaching Human Rights and Writing Art and has also been a Visiting Artist at SAIC in the program for 4 consecutive years. She has performed at the Whitney Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Poetry Project , MCA, The High Line , New Museum and Toronto Biennale. She delivered the closing keynote for Artist, Designers, Citizens Conference/a North American component of the Venice Biennale at SAIC. She appears in Nikki Giovanni’s, “The 100 Best African American Poems.” In 2018, she was nominated for two PushCart Prizes in poetry. Dear art lovers and media colleagues:
My article about the new book The Life and Times of Malcolm McLaren (Little Brown, U.K.), by Paul Gorman, has been published in HYPERALLERGIC’s “Weekend” edition.
McLaren, who died in 2010, will forever remain best known as the creator, in the 1970s, of the Sex Pistols and as the shaper of the essential elements of what would become the punk movement’s look and worldview. In London, dramatically reinventing the character of the small, intimate clothing boutique, along with Vivienne Westwood, McLaren revisited styles catering to fans of 1950s Teddy Boys (postwar Britain’s first youth-culture movement) and went on to produce radical reworkings of bondage gear and T-shirts featuring mash-ups of subversive slogans, nude photos, and other images. Together, the these designer-entrepreneurs specialized in a kind of aggressive anti-fashion.
After the Sex Pistols broke up, and the punk movement ran out of steam, McLaren continued working in an array of creative fields. As an impresario and artist in his own right, his productions ranged from television and radio programs, to record albums and even a quixotic campaign to become the mayor of London in 2000.
This well-researched, in-depth biography’s author, Paul Gorman, is a British journalist who has covered music and entertainment, and written extensively about contemporary fashion. His research and curatorial projects have focused on music, fashion, graphic design, and innovative pop-cultural trends.
This is a page-turner of a summer read to take to the beach — to the beach in your mind and in your living room, that is, in these coronavirus-lockdown times.

Arlene Rush, a New York City-based artist, has exhibited extensively in museums, universities, and galleries across the world. Archilesi I Homberg Fine Art represents her in New York and most recently, her work has appeared in Art In Odd Places and Pen and Brush in New York City and 2019 CONTEXT Miami Basel Art Fair. In February 2020, she was included in a group exhibition curated by Francesca Arcilesi and Norma Homberg in conjunction with SFA Projects in New York City. She will be part of several future exhibitions: “Someone Will Remember Us – even in a different time”, Curated by Lisa di Donato at The Plaxall Gallery in Long Island City, NY and “Americans Looking In”, Curated by Sheri Littlefield and Emile Ahern at The Center for Book Art in New York City in 2020, and “Cogito, ergo sum – I Think Therefore I Am: Prisms of Identity”, Curated by Bina Sarkar Ellias at Pen and Brush in New York City in 2021.
She has been the recipient of the Pat Hearn & Colin De Land Foundation Grant, and a residency to Barcelona, Spain from the Center for Emerging Visual Artists. For the last five years of Rush Art Gallery she was on the artist advisory board of Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation (no relations).
“My conceptual multidisciplinary work expands to sculptural objects, installations, and digital photography. Influenced by my own life and world events, I explore issues surrounding women’s rights, gender, identity, and the political and social climate of our era. I create sculptures, life casts of myself along with interactive performances. I appropriate and alter massed circulated objects – either material or virtual – and outline the increasing consumerism of late capitalism. My most current series Current Affairs explores the political state and how it challenges gender identity, me too era, racism and our human rights as a whole. Reflecting on the challenges of being a woman artist, I interrogate the patriarchal lens through which my work is viewed and create “new relics” of contemporary American culture and history.”
