Weekly Spotlight: Nancy Andrews, FF Alumn, now online at:
https://franklinfurnace.contentdm.oclc.org/digital/collection/p17325coll1/id/35

“An Epic: Falling Between the Cracks” chronicles the existential adventures of Frances Coco, an eighteen-inch-tall girl and her dog Lemuel, as told by a journalist played by Nancy Andrews. This dark and playful forty-five-minute solo performance/musical/film was presented by Franklin Furnace in April, 1995 at The Knitting Factory in TriBeCa. The journalist’s vaudevillian film lecture and “documentary footage” share a dark fantasy stop-action animation told over video and song, a masterful dual narrative creating vivid worlds of complex characters intertwined with whimsy and gloom. With lyrics from “Inland” by Edna St. Vincent Millet, special prop and set help by John Henley and Steven Reber, and assistance by Dru Colbert. (Text by Alison Siegel, FF intern, Autumn 2020).

Performance-
Feb 20, 5pm
Smack Mellon
In the performance JunkanooHakkaMama, created by Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow, the artist and five other performers will engage in a ritualistic representation of the five senses. Drawing from her Jamaican background, and from her Afro-Caribbean and Chinese heritage, Lyn-Kee-Chow embodies the character of a healer who uses herbal remedies and other curative elements, attempting to overcome the trauma of colonial exploitation in order to reconnect the body with nature.
This performance will be presented in person at Smack Mellon and will also be documented on video. The video will be posted on Smack Mellon’s website at a later date for those who would like to watch the performance online.

Join Central Booking for the panel at
2021 Contemporary Artists’ Books Conference (CABC)!

Content through Structure:
the Critical Focus on the Artist’s Book as Object
Feb 27, 12:00 pm

Maddy Rosenberg is moderating, with art critic John Haber and artists Pablo Helguera, Miriam Schaer and Mary Ting also participating.
With an artist’s book, content and form are interwoven. This panel will provide critical focus to the artist’s book as object, its place within the art world and the constructs of language around it.

Founded in 2008, CABC has been a long time programming partner of Printed Matter’s Art Book Fairs. This year CABC will be presented as part of Printed Matter’s Virtual Art Book Fair.
