Brief Description of the Internship
Are you looking for experience working in a nonprofit arts organization? Franklin Furnace Archive offers internships for college students and recent college graduates, and volunteerships for adults. We offer unique mutually-beneficial opportunities to learn about small non-profit arts administration, archives, digital presenting platforms, artists’ books, grant programs for performance artists, arts education, fundraising, financial management, and more.
Because Franklin Furnace is a small organization, interns and volunteers have the opportunity to gain professional experience while working directly with our senior staff and artists.
Interns and volunteers are expected to commit a minimum of 12-20 hours per week for 3-4 months. The schedule is flexible and interns can work during their preferred times while sharing their schedules through Google Calendar.
Internships and volunteerships will be conducted virtually while Covid restrictions remain in place.
Preferred Qualitifcations
Applicants should be passionate about working in art and nonprofits, excited to assist in various programs, self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, energetic, and hardworking with excellent written and communication skills.
Proficiency in Mac OS, Google programs, Microsoft Word and Excel, and Adobe Creative Cloud, as well as basic video editing and sharing, and website programming is preferred and knowledge of WordPress and other programs is a plus.
Individuals with arts administration and/or archiving and cataloguing experience are sought. Knowledge and/or course work in contemporary art history is a plus. All that’s really required is a burning desire to work with cutting-edge arts. NOTE: A mutual assessment meeting will take place 2 weeks after the start of all internships/volunteerships.

- Watch archival projects and write about them
- Grant Writing and Development
- Research new opportunities and understand eligibility criteria
- Collaborative and individual writing
- Financial management
- Working on the Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Art
- Review guidelines
- Prepare application launch
- Reviewing applications/processing data
- Placing data into presentations for panelists
- Present applications to intern cohort
- Assist in facilitating panelist reviews
- Compile Fund recipient materials
- Assisting with live and pre-recorded FF Digital LOFT events
- Work includes consulting with artists, pre-production, live event management, and archival processes
- SEQuential ART for KIDS
- Assistance with all aspects of arts-in-education programming and website
- Website Construction and Upkeep
- Elementor and WordPress knowledge, or desire to learn
- Create, edit and improve web pages
- Collaborative learning and sharing
- Create how-to documents for future interns – knowledge-sharing
- References available for successful interns and volunteers
